Associate Professor Endodontics - Cairo University
Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and conditions affecting the dental pulp and surrounding tissues. The dental pulp is the soft inner part of the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Endodontists are dental specialists who have undergone additional training beyond general dentistry to become experts in performing root canal treatments and other procedures related to the dental pulp. Root canal treatment is a common procedure in endodontics and involves removing infected or damaged dental pulp from the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the root canals, and sealing them to prevent further infection. Endodontists also diagnose and treat conditions such as dental abscesses, cracked teeth, and traumatic dental injuries that affect the dental pulp. They use advanced techniques and technologies, such as digital imaging and microscopes, to accurately diagnose and treat these conditions. In addition to root canal treatments, endodontists may perform procedures like endodontic retreatment (re-treating a tooth that has previously undergone root canal treatment), apicoectomy (surgical removal of the tip of the tooth root), and treatment of dental trauma. By preserving the natural tooth through effective treatment, endodontics aims to save teeth that would otherwise require extraction. This helps maintain oral health, function, and aesthetics. If you have concerns or symptoms related to the dental pulp, it is advisable to consult with an endodontist for a proper evaluation and appropriate treatment.
